Guangzhou Knowledge City sees major progress since 2020

China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC), a bilateral urban project located in Huangpu District of Guangzhou, has achieved major progress since the Overall Development Plan of CSGKC (2020-2035) was released in 2020.

According to the Huangpu District, CSGKC saw 290 projects starting construction over the passing year despite the Covid-19 pandemic, with a total investment of RMB 573.6 billion and fixed asset investment worth RMB 228.8 billion. The development of industries such as the next generation of information technology, biomedicine and semiconductor chips bloomed and attracted 21 academicians, more than 400 high-level talents and more than 3500 professionals with master and doctoral degrees.

“I came to Huangpu from Taiwan because the district is top in gross industrial output value in Guangzhou,” said Li Haiming, vice president of Guangzhou CanSemi Technology Inc., “the all-rounded industrial supporting facilities and solid industrial development boosts the development of leading enterprises and start-ups, which helped introduce a high-level workforce. The district also offers convenient public services with One-stop Talent Service Center.”

Anna Dotsenko, the operations manager of China-Ukraine (Huangpu) International Institute of Research and Innovation, is from Russia and she added, “Huangpu has launched the cross-border business registration service in Europe, which allows oversea investors and entrepreneurs to register, get business licenses and start business operations despite the travel restrictions.”

“The CSGKC’s Free Port for International Talents also helps us establish connections with a global talent pool,” said Anna, “our Institution maintains close partnerships with top scientific research institutions in Eastern Europe like the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences and Moscow State University.”

Peter Helis, Chief Advisor of Guangzhou Development District Investment Promotion Bureau, elaborated, “the CSGKC’s Free Port for International Talents provides ten advantageous policies which are rather attractive to the global workforce. I couldn’t find policies such as these in any other countries.”

In addition, the CSGKC has introduced high-profile local schools as well as an international school, SingChin Academy. The project is also equipped with hospitals, two Guangzhou Metro Lines. It won the Golden Novum Design Award in urban color planning in 2020.
